Serim GUARDIAN™ Residual Peroxide Test Strips

1. Key Benefits

Serim® GUARDIAN™ Residual Peroxide Test Strips give a semi-quantitative indication that the peracetic acid/peroxide disinfectant concentration has been reduced to safe levels after rinsing the dialyzer, dialysis machine or water distribution system. These strips provide a rapid and convenient means for measuring the concentration of peroxide remaining in dialysate lines and dialyzers after disinfection. A qualitative estimate of the peroxide concentration at or above 1-ppm is indicated by the appearance of a green or blue colour on the indicator pad.

2. Indications

Serim GUARDIAN™ Residual Peroxide Test Strips are indicated for:

  • Post-disinfection verification in hemodialysis centers
  • Testing dialysate lines and dialyzers after disinfection with peracetic acid/peroxide-based disinfectants such as Renalin®, Actril®, Minncare®, Puristeril®340, Peracidin®, PerAldecide™ and Micro-X®
  • Ensuring safe residual levels before patient treatment
  • Quality assurance in dialyzer reprocessing programs
  • Compliance with dialysis facility safety protocols
  • Water distribution system rinsing verification

3. How it Works

The test strips utilize colorimetric technology to provide semi-quantitative measurement of residual peroxide concentrations. When exposed to peroxide-containing solutions, the reagent pad on the strip undergoes a color change reaction. A qualitative estimate of the peroxide concentration at or above 1-ppm is indicated by the appearance of a green or blue colour on the indicator pad. Results of 3 ppm and above indicate that further rinsing is required, providing clear guidance for safety protocols.

4. Quality and Safety

Manufacturing Excellence: For over three decades Serim Research Corporation develops, manufactures, and markets test strips for measuring the presence of disinfectants and the water quality in thousands of medical facilities worldwide. Since 1988, Serim has been instrumental in pioneering the development of test strips for measuring the presence of disinfectants and water quality in thousands of dialysis centers worldwide.

FDA Clearance: These FDA-cleared test strips are specifically designed for use in dialysis, ensuring the potency of disinfectants, and monitoring the quality of water, dialysate, and peritoneal dialysis.

Safety Standards: The Guardian Residual Peroxide Test Strips help maintain high safety and efficacy standards in dialysis by providing reliable verification of proper disinfectant removal before patient treatment.

5. Important Considerations

Critical Safety Function:

  • Verification that disinfectants have been adequately rinsed from equipment
  • Prevention of patient exposure to harmful residual chemicals
  • Essential component of infection control protocols
  • Required testing before equipment can be safely used for patient treatment

Testing Protocol:

  • Test immediately after rinsing procedures
  • Results interpretation based on color development
  • Document results per facility quality assurance requirements
  • Repeat rinsing if residual levels exceed safe thresholds (3 ppm or above)

Product Specifications:

  • Semi-quantitative colorimetric measurement
  • Detection threshold at 1 ppm peroxide concentration
  • Rapid results for immediate decision-making
  • Easy-to-interpret color change indicators
  • Single-use disposable design

Storage Requirements:

  • Store in cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight
  • Keep container tightly sealed when not in use
  • Protect from moisture and temperature extremes
  • Regular rotation of stock based on expiration dates

Complementary Testing:

  • Use in conjunction with GUARDIAN™ Peracetic Acid Test Strips for complete disinfection monitoring
  • Part of comprehensive dialysis safety testing protocol
  • Integration with water quality and dialysate testing programs

Professional Considerations:

  • Essential for dialyzer reuse programs
  • Critical for patient safety in all hemodialysis applications
  • Requires trained personnel for proper interpretation
  • Documentation required for regulatory compliance
  • Should be part of standard operating procedures

Limitations:

  • Semi-quantitative results only
  • Color interpretation may vary between operators
  • Environmental factors can affect results
  • Not suitable for precise analytical measurements

Professional Note: Serim GUARDIAN™ Residual Peroxide Test Strips represent an essential safety tool for hemodialysis facilities. These strips provide the critical verification needed to ensure patient safety by confirming that potentially harmful disinfectant residuals have been adequately removed before equipment use.
